Can I Meditate Lying Down?

Today I want to answer the question “Can I Meditate Lying Down?” and the simple answer is yes. You absolutely can, it’s not a problem at all. Lying down isn’t the issue it’s the fact that you are almost guaranteed to fall asleep.

You have spent your entire life training your body to fall asleep when you lie down and close your eyes so by lying down to meditate you go through the exact same process and you will probably fall asleep.

For me personally I must be seated, I will 100% fall asleep if I was to meditate while lying down. There is no world where I lay down and don’t fall asleep unless I was juiced up on coffee or something.

If I’m looking to have a nap I might meditate lying down as it’s a great way to get some benefit of meditation while transitioning into a nap.

When you are just starting out with meditation, you can try lying down and see if you do fall asleep, because lying down can be more comfortable this may be an easy way to get yourself to start meditating.

However if you find yourself constantly falling asleep then you should try finding a comfortable position to sit in so that you can get more out of your meditation practice.

I like to sit on two pillows and have a third pillow behind me to support my lower back, I find this really comfortable when doing my 2 hours of meditation each morning.

At the end of the day there is no right or wrong way to meditate.

Trying to find the right way to meditate is putting you in your head and taking you out of the moment which is where you want to be.

The only wrong way to meditate is by trying to meditate the right way.

For me, meditation is simply spending time alone connecting with yourself while letting thoughts, doubts, insecurities and inspiration come up so you can accept them and then let them disappear.

Maybe you don’t want to let inspirational ideas disappear and you could engage in those types of thoughts and see where it leads you.

It’s all perfectly fine. You are connecting to yourself which is all that matters.

Hopefully that helps to answer the question on whether you can meditate lying down or not and I urge you to try and see what works for you.

Not for your mom, your best friend or your spouse but for YOU.

That’s all I got for today, leave a comment below and let me know what position you love to meditate in.
